In a significant stride towards enhancing healthcare access in rural areas, the Ranu Welum Foundation, with support from GIZ GmbH, recently organized an impactful medical service and health package delivery in Bundar village. The village is inhabited by the Dayak Maanyan community. This initiative falls under the Actions on Fire Management and Haze Protocols program, which aims to support communities affected by environmental and health challenges.
The event was a comprehensive healthcare outreach that serviced 127 patients from the village, providing essential medical attention and counseling. It was structured to address common health issues prevalent in the community, focusing on preventive and immediate care. The medical team, consisting of doctors, nurses, and volunteers, conducted a variety of health check-ups, including blood pressure monitoring, respiratory screenings, and basic medication. The primary aim was to create awareness and offer solutions to mitigate health risks associated with fire management and seasonal haze.
In addition to the medical services, the program included distributing health packages, specifically targeted to support the most vulnerable groups in the community. The initiative delivered 60 packages tailored for elders, recognizing the heightened health risks they face, particularly during haze seasons. The elder packages contained essential supplies such as vitamin supplements, 100 sheets of masks, first aid materials, small towels, nutritional foods like green beans, oats and milk.
Furthermore, 100 health packages were distributed to children, ensuring that the needs of the younger demographic were equally addressed. These packages included nutritional supplements and N95 masks for children.
This collaborative endeavor between the Ranu Welum Foundation and GIZ GmbH is a testament to successful community-focused interventions designed to promote health resilience in rural areas. Though it’s not easy to reach the area as the volunteers had to go through muddy roads and cross the deep river in the middle of the night by ferry, they were high spirited and strong in their commitment to enhancing health outcomes and fostering a well-informed, healthy community capable of navigating environmental challenges.
