To support The Heartland Project, we have built a place to store and nurse the seedlings called Polo Green House, named after our deceased rescued dog. There are over 3,000 seedlings stored in the green house every month to be planted through The Heartland Project.

Vegetables seeds at the nursery counter.

Besides becoming a nursery center, Polo Green House is also used as a learning place for youth and students who are interested in agroforestry or horticulture activities. Many seedlings are also distributed to the community to be planted in their own yards or fields. We grow seedlings of fruits such as durian, petai (stinky bean), coffee, guava, cacao, rambutan, soursop, cempedak (jackfruit species), mango plums and cinnamon.  We also have seedlings of pulai, meranti, blangiran and jelutung which are suitable for the peat ecosystem. Besides, we also grow some vegetables and spices such as papaya, many kinds of beans, different kinds of eggplants, chili, sweet potatoes, cassava trees, different kinds of ginger, lemongrass and sacha inchi  in the yard. These fruits and vegetables have been harvested several times.

This green house is also a place for developing seedlings of one of the endemic trees of Borneo. Ulin or Ironwood Tree, besides being developed at our Talekoi Ecology Center. The Ulin trees have reached a height of 1 meter and grow well. The sufficient treatment, such as watering and paranet roof, protect the tree and other seedlings to grow well, from the extreme sunrays in Palangka Raya.

In addition, there are also wild orchid and rare pitcher plants that we brought from Talekoi forests.

With this green house, we hope that the seedlings planted will be in the best condition, so that they can survive in their new location. Moreover, this green house is also a good learning place for young people and volunteers to learn how to plant properly. (Msy)
