PALANGKARAYA - At the end of August, our team made an emergency meeting with the Youth Act governance and network to rally flood relief missions in Central Kalimantan. The high intensity and frequency of rainfall over the last weeks has sunk many villages. This flooding was even more severe than last year's major flood, with higher flood water levels and more villages being affected.

Three days after the emergency meeting, we quickly started fundraising and distributing logistical assistance to villages. Scud is a pivotal key in running disaster relief because we can miss crucial moments when people desperately need our help.

We started our mission in early September to Tumbang Samba Village, the nearest affected area in Katingan Regency. Tumbang Samba village had been hit by frequent floods since May, although the floods receded quickly in 4-5 days. However, this village submerged because of big floods in August and cut off road access to other districts.

Within one month of our flood relief mission, we were able to raise around 50 million IDR to distribute more than 2,000 packages of food, milk, diapers, and medicines. We mobilized our local youth volunteers to assist the villagers and distribute meals and logistics. In total, we supported nine affected villages in 6 regencies, including Palangka Raya city, East Barito Regency, Murung Raya Regency, Katingan Regency, East Kotawaringin Regency, and Pulang Pisau regency.

Our flood relief mission would not be a success without the support from all our volunteers and donors. Thus, we with a grateful heart, want to thank everyone who has taken part in this mission and helped our community.
