Young people have been equipped with education, technology and digital skills by the Ranu Welum Foundation, Kalimantan
We believe this is the time for youth to come back to their roots and use their power to build their communities. In the last four years, we have trained more than 100 Indigenous youth in our community to use media skills for social change; recording stories from Elders, addressing issues of Indigenous rights, documenting traditions and rituals, and telling their own stories.
We are aware that Indigenous issues are not well represented and discussed in Indonesia and media is often used to discredit Indigenous communities. The Ranu Welum Foundation is taking action to empower youth to create their own indigenous film festivals in the Indonesian archipelago, along with having films screened to a global audience.
We are determined to deliver more training in the heart of Kalimantan and reach young people who are still very connected to the forest and their cultural identity. This year, our target for 2019 is to train up to 50 young people. Besides filming, audio editing and storytelling skills, we will also add new materials – ‘Digital Literacy’ and ‘Art for Social Impact’.

Landak Regency, West Kalimantan | 22 - 26 April 2019 | 30 participants
East Barito, Central Kalimantan | 28 -2 May 2019 | 30 participants
Trainer/Facilitator: Training will be facilitated by Emmanuela Shinta and Dita Yustina (from Ranu Welum Foundation), Zein Alitamara (young passionate Dayak whose art work has been exhibited internationally) and other guest facilitators from outside Kalimantan and overseas.
We believe this training and development of young people is a major move toward the transformation that we long to see. Now is the time for us to use our digital platform to make the voices, stories, perspectives and wisdom of Kalimantan communities heard by Indonesia and the world.
As this is a program to equip young people in rural area of Kalimantan, we do not take any registration fee from participants. Therefore, your support is very much needed as the part of this movement. We believe that partnership is the key to success. Together we can achieve even greater things.
