On November 13th, Ranu Welum conducted an online training session with the theme “Social media on the hands of Indigenous Youth.” There were 17 people from different parts of Kalimantan who joined the training. In the training, we highlighted the role of social media in shaping the culture and public opinion, and how to use it for the advantage of indigenous communities.
The training was the part of a digital training series under the project collaboration between Ranu Welum and UNESCO & AIPP. Previously, at the end of October, an offline training in Talekoi village was held. It was attended by 36 participants, mostly teenagers of 12-19 years old.
There are also other trainings conducted in other countries that are part of the projects. In Sabah, the training was held online. In South India, the training was held offline and engaged youth in Marianadu fishing village. More training will be conducted in Bangladesh and North East India.
We really hope this project can equip indigenous youth in this era of digitalisation, so they can use the skills of technology and digital platform to protect their cultures, territory and empower their communities.
